Day 1: Hometown - Paris
Your 12 days vacation around Europe begins with your overnight flight to Paris, France. Paris is the largest city in France and is also known as the "City of Lights".
Day 2: Paris
Upon arrival in Paris, you will meet your guide at the airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day will be free for you to discover Paris at your leisure. You can go shopping at the world famous Galeries Lafayette which is a world class department store and is home to many famous luxury brands. You can also sit and enjoy the scenery at one of the many outdoor cafes in Paris as you eat pastry and drink coffee. You can also take an optional River Seine Cruise where you can see some of the most famous monuments like Notre-Dame, the Louvre, and the Eiffel tower as you travel along the river.
Day 3: Paris
Today you will sightsee on both sides of the River Seine. You will see the Arc de Triomphe that stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle. This arch honors those who fought for France, particularly during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and the top of the arc there are all of the names of generals and wars fought. Underneath is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the world wars. You will also tour the Eiffel Tower which is a global symbol of France and is one of the most recognizable structures in the world. You will also explore the Notre Dame Cathedral which is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world. Notre Dame is also an active Catholic church, a place of pilgrimage, and the focal point for Catholicism in France. You will also visit the Palace of Versailles. This site started as just a hunting lodge for King Louis XIII until his son, Louis XIV expanded it and moved the government there. It was also the site where the Treaty of Versailles was signed that ended WW I.
Day 4: Paris - Lyon - Chambery
Today you will travel to Lyon which is the second largest city in France and is known to have some of the best food in France. You will visit the Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourviere which is located atop the Fourviere Hill in Lyon and is visible from all over the city. You will also explore the Place des Terreaux which is considered to be the center of town. Here you can see the 69 dancing jets of water which come from the ground and are symmetrically arranged. You can also enjoy the dancing water show which is also lit up at night. You will also go on an Old Lyon city tour where you will see the largest display of Renaissance architecture in France, which dates back to the end of the 15th century. You will stay overnight in Chambery.
Day 5: Chambery - Milan - Verona
You will journey to Milan which is the second largest city in Italy. You will visit the magnificent Castello Sforzesco which is a castle in Milan that used to be the main residence for the Dukes of Milan but now houses several museums and art collections. You will also visit the Duomo di Milan which is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the second largest Catholic cathedral in the world. You will also see the Teatro alla Scala which is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. It was built in 1778 where many composers wrote and conducted works including such greats as Rossini, Puccini, Verdi and Toscanini. You will stay overnight in Verona.
Day 6: Verona - Venice
Today you will enjoy the sites of Verona. This city in north eastern Italy is best known as the setting for the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is also known for its artistic heritage, annual fairs, operas, and ancient Roman amphitheatre. Afterwards you will travel to Venice which is world famous for its canals. Venice consists of 117 different islands which are linked by over 150 canals, 400 bridges and many ancient pavements that are car-free. You will stay overnight in Rimini.
Day 7: San Marino - Rome - Vatican
Today you will tour San Marino which is a tiny country located in the Apennine Mountains surrounded by Italy and is the oldest republic in the world. Afterwards you will travel to visit Rome which is the capital and the largest city in Italy. In Rome you will visit the world famous Colosseum. This is an amphitheatre in the center of the city and was the largest ever built during the Roman Empire. You will also see Trevi Fountain which is known as the most beautiful fountain in Rome. You will also enjoy your journey to Vatican City which is the smallest independent state in the world, at 110 acres. Vatican City is the latest and only current Papal state in existence and the seat of the Pope, who is head of the worldwide Catholic Church. You will stay overnight in Rome.
Day 8: Rome - Florence
Today you will travel to Florence which is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance, especially for its art and architecture. Here you will enjoy the views from the Piazzale Michelangelo. This famous square is dedicated to the great Renaissance artist Michelangelo and has a wonderful panoramic view of Florence. You will stay overnight in Florence.
Day 9: Florence - Pisa
Today you will travel to Pisa which is world famous for its Leaning Tower. This tower was built starting in 1173 as the bell tower for the cathedral of Pisa. Soon after construction began, the tower began tilting on its clay foundation. If you have the strength then you can try to walk up the 294 steps to the top. You will also visit the Baptistery of St. John which is the largest in Italy. This beautiful building was started in one style and finished in another like many buildings in Italy; the first three tiers are Romanesque while the upper layers are Gothic. The most notable feature of this baptistery is the perfect acoustics in the dome where choir concerts can be heard from miles away. You will stay overnight in Genoa.
Day 10: Pisa - Monaco - Nice - Cannes - Valence
You will journey to the worlds smallest French-speaking country and the second smallest country in the world: Monaco which is world famous for its beaches and casinos. Here you will visit the Royal Palace, also known as the Princes Palace of Monaco which is the official residence for the Prince of Monaco. You can also try your luck at one of the world-class casinos in Monaco. You will also enjoy the city tour of Monte Carlo which is widely known for its casinos, glamour, luxurious yachts and for sightings of wealthy and famous people. Afterwards you will travel to Nice which is a leading resort on the French Riviera. Here you will visit the Palais Massena which was built in the 19th century and features paintings from the Nice school, ceramics and French folk art. Then you will go to Cannes which is a beautiful city on French Riviera and is most famous for the Cannes Film Festival that takes place each May. Here you will visit the site of the Cannes Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres. You will stay overnight in Valence.
Day 11: Valence - Paris
Today you will go on a city tour of beautiful Valence. In the evening you will return to Paris for your final overnight stay.
Day 12: Paris - Hometown
Today you will say adieu (goodbye) to Paris as you board your flight back to your hometown.
